The week's thread — 14 September

17 rounds, €100M+ raised, France dominant — and a pattern running across almost every deal: AI built to handle the structured, repeatable portion of expert work in sectors that have resisted software for decades.

Seventeen rounds. Roughly €100 million raised across seven countries, announced between Monday and Sunday. Four briefs to contain it — the week's volume exceeded each daily window, and rounds accumulated in catch-up editions through the weekend. The shape of the week was not a single event but a sustained stream, with France at the centre.

France led; Germany followed

Six of the seventeen rounds came from French companies. Arlequin AI (€28M Series A, Paris) is the week's largest round by a wide margin — a bet on topological neural networks for complex-data intelligence, co-led by Redalpine and OTB Ventures, with Bpifrance's Defence Innovation Fund and Xavier Niel on the cap table. It accounts for roughly a quarter of the week's total capital. Below it: Actionable (€8.6M, Paris), Olenbee (€7M, Rouen), Ed.ai (€5M Seed, Lyon), Tellia (€4.3M Pre-Seed, Paris), and Outline ($3M Seed, Paris). Six distinct sectors, six rounds, one city that accounted for four of them.

Germany produced four rounds: sci2sci (€1.2M Pre-Seed, Berlin), Furo (€3.44M, Munich), FRYTE Mobility (€3.5M Seed, Munich), and Grubel (€3M Pre-Seed, Munich). Three of four from Munich, all in different sectors.

The UK contributed two: Veridue (€3.44M Pre-Seed, London) and Resolutiion (€9.5M Seed, London). Italy two: Biorsaf (€5.2M, Grosseto) and Bynario (€2.1M Pre-Seed, Milan). Belgium, Portugal, and the Netherlands one each: IVEX (€5M Series A), Hope Care (€6M Series A), Gravity Gardens (€2.6M Seed).

The pattern

Sectors span agriculture, food safety, energy storage, EV logistics, legal contracts, cybersecurity, enterprise AI, education, financial planning, healthcare, and deep-tech infrastructure. No single theme links all seventeen. But a consistent logic runs beneath most of them: software built to handle the structured, repeatable component of expert work in sectors that have been slow to adopt it.

Tellia captures unstructured farm field notes and converts them into structured agronomic records. Ed.ai grades paper exam copies and identifies error patterns by pupil. Outline gives finance teams AI agents that model and forecast the business without a full FP&A suite. Veridue runs due diligence on renewable energy and data centre deals in hours, not weeks. Resolutiion surfaces dispute signals in live contracts before they reach a solicitor. Grubel adapts an AI system to the specific data of each complex legal matter. Each company is building the version that handles the structured part — and trying to earn the trust required to handle the rest.

The investor thread

Revent made the week's most consistent double bet: Tellia (voice-data capture for agriculture) and FRYTE Mobility (open-protocol EV charging coordination), both on Wednesday's announcement. Two sectors, one thesis: open-interface software replacing fragmented manual coordination at the point where a sector's physical transformation requires software to function. Point Nine invested in Grubel, carrying forward the domain-specific AI thesis it expressed earlier this year in Aardaia — the crop science company that also closed a ProYarn-covered round.

The legal AI pair that closed the week is worth sitting with. Resolutiion and Grubel were announced on the same day, in two different countries, with no apparent connection. One monitors live contracts for dispute signals; the other builds case-specific AI for the complex matter that a dispute becomes. They are not competitors — they address different points in the same lifecycle. But they are the same bet: that legal work contains a structured layer that AI can own, and that the value is large enough to justify building infrastructure for it.

Seventeen rounds, one week. The volume was unusually high; the pattern was unusually consistent.
