Outline raises $3M to replace the monthly spreadsheet rebuild for finance teams
A Paris-based AI financial planning platform that connects to a company's accounting, billing, payroll, and sales systems and deploys specialised agents to model activity, generate forecasts, and run scenario simulations — targeting finance teams at €5M–€150M revenue businesses who have outgrown spreadsheets but cannot justify enterprise FP&A suites.
Outline (Paris) has closed a $3 million ($3M / ~€2.74M) seed round led by Founders Future, with 100in, Newschool, and a group of industry angels participating. Among the angels are Bruno Vaffier (CEO of Cegid), Antoine Lizée (AI lead at Alan), and Raphaël Nahum (finance director at Pennylane). Founded in June 2026 by Antoine de Mereuil and Hubert Jaouen — both former Alan employees — the company builds AI agents for financial planning and analysis at companies that have outgrown spreadsheets but cannot yet justify enterprise planning software.
The founding pair bring complementary backgrounds. Jaouen, an engineer trained at Ponts and the London School of Economics, built financial forecasting tools at Spotify ahead of its public listing before handling planning work at Alan. De Mereuil brings commercial and entrepreneurial experience from Frichti, Alan, and an earlier venture, Primo. Together they argue that finance teams remain systematically under-equipped relative to engineering or sales, even though they sit at the centre of corporate decision-making.
The problem with the monthly rebuild
For companies generating between €5 million and €150 million in revenue, the practical state of financial planning is a recurring spreadsheet rebuild. Every month, a finance team pulls data from accounting, billing, payroll, and sales systems, pastes it into a model, checks for broken references, updates assumptions, generates charts, and produces a report. The process is labour-intensive, slow, and produces a snapshot that is partially stale by the time it is presented. Some finance teams spend up to four full days a month on the rebuild alone.
Enterprise FP&A suites — Anaplan, Workday Adaptive Insights, Pigment — solve this at scale, but at a price and implementation complexity that is not viable for mid-market companies. Excel persists not because it is a good planning tool, but because nothing in its price and complexity class has replaced it.
Outline connects to a company's existing accounting, invoicing, payroll, and sales systems in a few clicks. Specialised AI agents then study the business, propose a model, validate it against actual data, and make it available for scenario simulation. Finance teams can query assumptions and outputs in natural language. The founders treat auditability as a design constraint rather than a feature: a finance director cannot present board-level forecasts generated by a model that cannot explain its own assumptions.
Early traction and the next phase
Outline already counts approximately ten paying finance teams among its customers, including those at Zelty, Shares, and HarfangLab. The company is a three-person team at the time of the raise; the capital will fund hiring on product and go-to-market, with France as the initial market and Europe and the United States as sequential targets.
Founders Future partner Louis Sautet described the rationale plainly: the problem is hard enough that few teams tackle it seriously, and de Mereuil and Jaouen have the dual culture — finance-domain knowledge and product craft — that the market requires.
The round arrives as French and European regulatory frameworks increase reporting demands on mid-market companies, and as the CFO role broadens from compliance to strategic contribution. Whether Outline can compound its early traction into a defensible category position against Pigment (which has already raised over €280 million and targets a similar customer profile at larger scale) is the medium-term question the $3 million is buying time to answer.
