Olenbee raises €7M to make meal vouchers invisible — no dedicated card required
A Rouen-based fintech that uses open banking to eliminate the dedicated meal-voucher card — connecting employee benefits directly to personal bank accounts and reimbursing eligible purchases automatically, in real time, via an AI-powered identification layer.
“Employee benefits must adapt to the recipient, and that means an invisible solution. Dedicated meal-voucher cards must disappear.”
Olenbee (Rouen) has raised €7 million — €6.46 million in equity and €540,000 in debt — in a round led by Go Capital, with participation from Bpifrance and the European Regional Development Fund, alongside business angels. Founded in 2024 by Arnaud Martenat, Olivier Berthommier, François Roulin, and Gonzague Bourrut Lacouture — all former executives at Sodexo — the company is building an open banking alternative to the dedicated meal-voucher card.
The model is straightforward: instead of employees receiving a separate meal-voucher card loaded with funds each month, Olenbee integrates directly with their existing personal bank account via Linxo, a Crédit Agricole subsidiary. Its algorithm identifies eligible purchases — a restaurant lunch, a bakery, a food retailer — and reimburses the employer's contribution directly to the employee's account in real time. The benefit becomes invisible: employees pay with their regular card and receive reimbursement without managing a separate app or wallet.
Why the card has to go
The meal-voucher market in France has been structurally contested since 2019, when Edenred, Sodexo (now Pluxee), Up Coop, and Natixis Intertitres were fined a combined €415 million for anticompetitive practices — specifically for maintaining a closed ecosystem that blocked new entrants. The digitalisation wave that followed produced Swile, which reached unicorn status on the back of a meal-voucher card with a modern UX. Olenbee's founders, who built their careers inside one of the incumbent issuers, argue that the card itself is the structural problem — not the UX on top of it.
Their case rests on two pain points. For employees: the card creates a separate float (the salaried portion deducted monthly), requires them to remember which card to use at which merchant, and generates friction when the card is declined or a merchant does not accept it. For employers: the system requires advance funding, creates reconciliation overhead, and adds logistical complexity that many smaller companies manage poorly.
Olenbee charges companies a subscription and takes a per-transaction commission — a recurring revenue model that scales with usage rather than with the number of cards issued.
The product roadmap and the target
Olenbee launched meal vouchers in June 2025 and gift checks in June 2026. The platform is being extended to cashback, cultural purchases, and mobility benefits — the company describes its medium-term objective as managing 80 million transactions per year within three years.
The current scale is modest: 6,000 users across 260 company clients, with a roughly 20-person team. The round's capital will go into R&D and commercial headcount. The target of 80,000 users by early 2027 represents a 13× increase from the current base.
Arnaud Martenat: "Employee benefits must adapt to the recipient, and that means an invisible solution. Dedicated meal-voucher cards must disappear."
The comparison to Alan and Revolut is deliberate. Both companies entered markets controlled by established, underpenetrated infrastructure and won by removing a layer — the separate health-insurer card, the separate bank account — rather than by building a better version of it. Whether the regulatory environment for meal vouchers, which operates under specific French labour law provisions, allows for the same kind of winner-take-most outcome is the question Go Capital is backing the Olenbee team to answer.
