Ed.ai raises €5M seed to give teachers an AI assistant that grades and diagnoses

A Lyon-based EdTech startup that gives teachers an AI assistant for grading paper copies and diagnosing pupil errors — turning corrected work into structured pedagogical data linked to curriculum objectives, allowing teachers to act on misconceptions at class level rather than copy by copy.

This funding gives us the means to match our ambitions: industrialize what's working in France, and replicate that same trust in the United States.
Ed.ai team

Ed.ai (Lyon) has raised a €5 million seed round led by Bpifrance via its Digital Venture fund, with La Poste Ventures and 50 Partners also participating. Existing investors AFI Ventures, CentraleSupélec Venture, Ring Capital, and Super Capital renewed their commitment. Nadia Amal, deputy director of the education and youth division at Docaposte, joins the board. The company builds an AI assistant for teachers that grades paper copies, identifies patterns in pupil errors, and feeds structured diagnostic data back into the teacher's planning workflow.

The company was founded by Rémi Mazières, Jonathan Banon, and Cédric Bignon, who built the product at Station F in Paris before growing into Lyon-based operations. The round follows a €1.7 million pre-seed raised fifteen months earlier.

From 100 copies a week to 2,500 a day

Ed.ai's growth trajectory is unusual for EdTech, where adoption timelines typically follow institutional procurement cycles rather than organic usage. The company went from 100 corrected copies per week in September 2025 to 2,500 per day by June 2026, and processed more than 100,000 copies in the six months leading up to this round.

The product works with paper copies: teachers scan or photograph student work, and Ed.ai's AI identifies errors, categorises them by type, and generates a diagnostic summary at both the individual and class level. The output is not just a grade but a map of where a cohort of students misunderstood a concept — allowing the teacher to address systematic gaps rather than reviewing each copy independently. The platform currently covers ten subjects.

In surveys conducted across the Lyon and Île-de-France education authorities, nine in ten teachers said they intend to reuse or recommend the tool. Ed.ai reports a repeat-usage rate above 85% among teachers who trial it.

The expansion plan

The €5 million will fund three simultaneous moves: growing the French school base from 120 to 500 schools, expanding US presence from five to 50 states, and preparing a higher-education offering on both sides of the Atlantic. The team will double. The company's target for the 2026–2027 school year is two million corrected copies processed through the platform.

La Poste Ventures' participation is notable as a strategic anchor: Docaposte, La Poste's digital services subsidiary (Nadia Amal's employer), has established distribution relationships with French public institutions, which is the procurement channel that EdTech companies in France find hardest to crack at scale.

At €5 million, the round sits in the top 1% of education seed rounds ever raised in France. The scale of ambition is not to be a well-funded niche tool, but to become a reference platform in a market where the majority of school copies are still corrected by hand.
