Today, insurance pays out and then the family is on their own for the next six months. We are redefining personal insurance, so the support is not only a payment. It should help the family keep going.
Valtteri KorkiakoskiCEO and co-founder, Solace Care

Solace Care (Stockholm) has raised €2.1 million in a Pre-Seed round led by Spintop Ventures, the Nordic enterprise software and deep-tech fund that backed Velatir in August. Additional investors include Plug and Play (global InsurTech), Further Than Capital, and Wave Ventures, alongside a group of angel investors drawn almost entirely from senior insurance industry roles: Caroline Farberger (former CEO of ICA Försäkring), Fredrik Solberg (former CEO of Eir Insurance), Emil Lagerstedt-Karlsson (former VP Insurance & InsurTech at Insurely), Tomi Yli-Kyyny (former CEO of Fennia), and Stefan Moritz (former Head of Innovation at Max Matthiessen).

Founded in January 2025 by Valtteri Korkiakoski (CEO) and Josef Karakoca (CTO) — the co-founders who previously built mental health app Medified and sold it to Mindler in 2022 — Solace Care sells a B2B platform to life insurers and brokers that extends insurance from a payout product into an ongoing service. Before a policyholder's death, the platform gives them a private space to record wishes, gather documents, and leave instructions in a shared vault. After death, families are guided institution by institution through the administrative process, with human support alongside the digital tools.

Insurance that works before the payout

The company's commercial insight is structural: a life insurance policy's only delivery mechanism, in its traditional form, is a payout that arrives after the insured person can no longer benefit from it. The policyholder has no experience of the product they are paying for. Solace Care's argument is that adding pre-death planning and post-death family support gives the insurer a living product — one that the policyholder uses, that generates data, and that the family experiences as something other than a cheque in a difficult moment.

Karacoka identified the distribution barrier directly: a product that "does nothing for you until you die is a tough sell to a healthy 35-year-old." The planning and support layer changes that equation — the same policy does something useful for the family in the present, not only at loss. The platform is certified to ISO 27001 and live in Swedish, Finnish, and Norwegian.

25,000 covered lives in under a year

Since launch, Solace Care has reached 25,000 covered lives across Sweden, Finland, and Norway — a figure that represents not direct-to-consumer subscribers but policyholders covered through carrier and broker partnerships. The route-to-market is B2B: Solace Care does not acquire end-users directly. Growth comes from enterprise relationships with carriers who white-label or bundle the platform as part of their existing policy offer.

The angel roster is the enterprise sales strategy. Five former insurance CEOs and executives writing personal cheques into a pre-Seed company have operational knowledge of which carriers will engage, which procurement processes to navigate, and who has the authority to sign a distribution agreement. That knowledge shortens the carrier sales cycle meaningfully — the most common cause of death for InsurTech companies is not product quality but B2B sales velocity.

The capital goes to enterprise sales capability, deepening existing Nordic partnerships, and entering the Netherlands and UK — markets where the founding team has already appointed local commercial advisers. Spintop Ventures partner Erik Wenngren noted that life insurance "has been sold on the same promise for decades" and that Solace Care "changes what the product actually delivers to a family, both before and after a loss."
