Denmark's Velatir raises €5M Seed to map how European enterprises actually use AI — and let them govern it
An Odense-based B2B SaaS platform that gives enterprises full visibility into which AI tools their employees use, on which devices, and for which tasks — with governance controls built on European-owned cloud infrastructure.
“We want to give them back control and transparency so they can move as fast as AI tools are developing.”
Velatir (Odense, Denmark) has raised a €5 million Seed co-led by Spintop Ventures (Nordic VC) and Ugly Duckling Ventures (Danish VC), with participation from Norrsken Evolve, the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark, and two angels: Jan Oberhauser (CEO of n8n, the workflow automation platform) and Thomas Visti (former CEO of Universal Robots). The round was reported exclusively by Sifted on August 20, 2026. Both Ugly Duckling Ventures and Norrsken Evolve are returning from the company's February 2026 pre-seed of DKK 10 million (approximately €1.3 million).
Velatir was founded in 2025 by Michael Blicher Sørensen (CEO), Elias Sørensen, Christian Møller, and Andreas Paulli. The platform gives enterprises real-time visibility into which AI tools their employees are using, across which devices and applications, and for which types of tasks — plus the policy controls to govern that usage without defaulting to blanket prohibitions. Infrastructure is hosted on European-owned cloud, a deliberate positioning for a market where data sovereignty is a live compliance concern under both GDPR and the EU AI Act.
The shadow AI problem
The premise behind Velatir's product is straightforward: enterprise AI adoption is moving faster than enterprise IT governance. Employees adopt AI coding assistants, productivity tools, writing platforms, and model APIs at a pace that outstrips any central catalogue. The result is a category of risk — data sent to unvetted third-party models, AI-generated outputs presented as authoritative, regulatory exposure from undisclosed AI use in regulated industries — that IT and compliance departments cannot manage without visibility into what is actually deployed.
Sørensen's framing is pragmatic rather than restrictive: "We want to give them back control and transparency so they can move as fast as AI tools are developing." That positions Velatir not as a brake on AI adoption but as the infrastructure that makes it governable — a distinction that matters commercially, because enterprises that blocked AI tool use have already found it counterproductive. Monitoring without blocking is the thesis; the product's value depends on whether that visibility translates into actionable governance rather than a compliance dashboard that no one reads.
The angels and the expansion cadence
The angel roster carries deliberate signal. Jan Oberhauser (n8n) operates in the workflow and AI automation layer that overlaps directly with Velatir's addressable market — enterprises that run AI workflows are precisely the organisations that need to know which tools those workflows call. Thomas Visti's Universal Robots background suggests the industrial and manufacturing enterprise segment is part of the commercial thesis, where AI tool governance is an operational liability question as much as a compliance one.
The Seed funds a defined expansion plan: a Stockholm office on 1 October 2026, followed by one new European office per quarter through December 2027, with Paris as the confirmed next location. That pace is aggressive for a company founded in 2025. It presupposes both a European enterprise pipeline that is already forming and the hiring capacity to staff offices at quarterly intervals. Whether that cadence reflects contracted demand or a prospective plan will determine whether the expansion timeline holds.
