The week's thread — 16 August
12 rounds, ~€60M across 8 countries: 10–16 August. AI security leads with Mindgard (€26M) and Cytix (€6M). France returns with AMDB Security Pro after 10 days.
The week ending 16 August produced 12 rounds and approximately €60 million across eight countries. One company accounts for nearly half: Mindgard at €26 million. Strip it out and the week's underlying early-stage signal is roughly €34 million across 11 rounds — a solid result for a week truncated by the Assumption holiday on 15 August. Both numbers are true; neither tells the whole story.
The AI security cluster
The week has a genuine thread and it runs through cybersecurity — two UK companies addressing the security consequences of AI-accelerated software development, both at Series A, and both independently routing to regulated enterprise buyers through the same managed-services channel.
Mindgard (London, €26 million, Series A; Album VC lead, Karma Ventures, .406 Ventures, Atlantic Bridge, IQ Capital, Lakestar) builds infrastructure for the psycho-technical attack surface that AI systems create — Shadow AI discovery, autonomous red-teaming, and runtime protection. The Lancaster University spinout has publicly disclosed more than 150 high-impact AI vulnerabilities in production systems, including a zero-day in Cursor IDE and guardrail failures in ChatGPT's image generation. IQ Capital, Lakestar, and Atlantic Bridge are returning investors at higher stakes — the clearest available signal that they have seen the commercial traction first-hand.
Cytix (Manchester, €6 million, Series A; Northern Gritstone lead, Auriga Cyber Ventures, NPIF II) reads the full context of a software change — the Jira ticket, the pull request, the deployment configuration — and assigns a risk score at the point of change, not after deployment. The audience is compliance teams in regulated industries where AI-assisted development has outrun the existing review cycle. Mindgard attacks the threat from the outside in (the AI models themselves); Cytix attacks it from the inside out (the development process that modifies and deploys them). Both list NCC Group and KPMG as go-to-market partners — the same managed-services channel appearing in two independent rounds filed within 24 hours is not coincidence; it is a structural fact about how regulated-enterprise security buyers are being reached in 2026.
Five more AI tooling bets
Five rounds address AI tooling across separate verticals with no overlap.
Edgify (London, €7.7M, Series A+; Rank Ventures, Mangrove Capital Partners) extends its edge MLOps platform — AI models trained on in-store hardware without cloud round-trips — into transportation and logistics. Seven years in, total funding at €21.6 million. Visoid (Oslo, €2.16M, Seed; Skyfall Ventures lead) converts architects' existing 3D models into high-quality visualisations in minutes without changing their current tools; named clients include OMA, LEO A DALY, and Sweco Group. Aisot Technologies (Zurich, €2.1M, Seed extension; Felix Haldner and existing family offices) brings AI portfolio intelligence to institutional asset managers who cannot build their own quant stack — former Partners Group Partner Haldner joining is the strategic signal. Qodia (Hamburg, €1.2M, stage unstated; undisclosed medical-sector investor) automates German GOÄ private billing for billing centres. STRGY AI (Helsinki, €1M, angel; Maryne Lemvik and Innovestor's Angel CoFund) converts strategy into trackable daily operations for Chiefs of Staff and COOs.
The remaining four
Entravel Group (Copenhagen, €6.5M, Seed; Ethereal Ventures and Finality Capital co-lead) provides white-label travel infrastructure — hotel supply, AI-mapped inventory, an MCP booking interface — to crypto platforms and fintechs. Booking conversion above 10% against the 1–3% travel-industry benchmark; investor list is predominantly Web3-aligned. Zerolook (Zug, €1.6M, pre-Seed; Playfair lead) predicts flight prices using ML rather than live GDS queries, built for the 1:200,000 look-to-book ratio AI travel agents generate. Playfair's third ProYarn-tracked investment in 2026, alongside Exclaim Robotics and Astral Systems.
AMDB Security Pro (Lyon, €2.68M, Seed; two unnamed American private investors) builds France's first purely mechanical anti-theft system for excavators — hardened boron steel, no electronics in the lock. France's only round of the week and its first since Shiplog on 7 August, ending ten days of grandes vacances silence. Millow (Gothenburg, €2M, stage unstated; Magnus Emilson, Jan Enhager and Swedish strategic investors) produces protein from mycelium and Swedish oats at 0.32 kg CO₂e per kilogram — the European Patent Office confirmed in August that the core production patent cleared its nine-month opposition window without challenge. Metal Morph (London, €820K, pre-seed; Sustainable Ventures and Green Angel Ventures co-lead) recovers aluminium and iron-based coagulants from water treatment plants for direct reuse, with six UK water utilities covering 56% of the market signed as partners.
The week in numbers
~€60 million across 12 rounds in 8 countries. The United Kingdom leads by capital — Mindgard, Edgify, Cytix, and Metal Morph total approximately €40.5 million, two-thirds of the week in one country. Denmark places second with Entravel's €6.5 million. France returns from ten days of silence with AMDB Security Pro's €2.68 million — the streak ends; one round does not confirm the desk is back at pace. Norway, Switzerland, Germany, Finland, and Sweden each contribute one round.
Stage split: two Series A (Mindgard, Cytix), one Series A+ (Edgify), four Seeds (Visoid, Entravel, AMDB Security Pro, Aisot), two pre-Seeds (Zerolook, Metal Morph), three unstated (Millow, Qodia, STRGY AI). Playfair made its third ProYarn-tracked 2026 investment this week. Northern Gritstone backed Cytix as its second northern English deal of the year alongside Pixel-Flo (Sheffield). The NCC Group / KPMG managed-services channel appeared independently in the week's two largest rounds — worth tracking as a pattern into the autumn.
The Assumption holiday on 15 August closed the calendar through the weekend. The post-holiday filing window reopens Monday.
