Stride raises £4.6M seed to turn diagnostics-driven preventative health into a consumer membership
A Norwich-based preventative health company offering diagnostics-driven memberships combining DNA, blood, and gut health testing with AI-powered personalised insights to help individuals understand, track, and extend their healthspan.
“Preventative health can sometimes sound boring or worthy, when actually it could be one of the most transformative opportunities of our generation. If we can make better health exciting, aspirational and genuinely engaging, and use deeper analysis to give people better insights earlier in life, we have the potential to change everyday behaviours at a scale that could fundamentally reshape how long and how well we live.”
Stride (Norwich) has raised £4.6M — approximately €5.4M at current exchange rates — in a seed round. Arāya Ventures, Morgan Stanley Inclusive & Sustainable Ventures, and Better Ventures are the institutional participants, alongside a grant from Innovate UK and an investment from an a16z Scout Fund participant. No single lead investor was named at announcement. The company was founded in May 2024 by Andrew Steele, an Olympic medallist in the 4x400m relay at Beijing 2008 and co-founder of DNAfit, the sports genetics company acquired in 2018.
Stride describes itself as the UK's first diagnostics-driven preventative health membership. The product — Stride One — combines DNA testing, blood panel analysis, and gut microbiome sequencing into a single longitudinal membership, with AI-powered personalised insights generated from the combined dataset rather than from each test in isolation.
What the product does differently
Most consumer health testing products are point-in-time or single-modality: a blood test or a DNA kit or a gut test, delivered once, with a PDF of results. Stride's model is structured as a continuous membership: tests recur on a schedule, results compound over time, and the AI layer interprets shifts across all three data streams simultaneously — flagging, for example, that a change in a gut microbiome marker correlates with a trend in a blood panel, rather than treating each result independently.
The two Innovate UK research projects Stride is funding within the round extend this logic: one focuses on multiomic biological age measurement — translating the combined dataset into an individual's biological age relative to chronological age — and the other on an AI health copilot that contextualises results and generates actionable guidance. Both are potential product components rather than research-for-research's-sake: a biological age score creates a single retention-sustaining metric, and a copilot addresses the gap between "here are your results" and "here is what to do about them."
The round and what it funds
The £4.6M closes three immediate priorities. First, develop the platform's predictive and personalisation capabilities ahead of the international launch. Second, execute the international launch of Stride One before end-2026 — the company has not named specific markets, but Northern Europe and the US are logical first candidates given the English-language product and the team's existing networks. Third, fund the Innovate UK research projects, whose non-dilutive structure preserves equity while extending the platform's clinical roadmap.
Arāya Ventures is a health-focused early-stage fund with a portfolio oriented toward longevity and diagnostics. Morgan Stanley Inclusive & Sustainable Ventures operates as an impact investment arm; Stride's framing around preventative health and reduced NHS burden positions it within that mandate. Better Ventures is a San Francisco-based fund with a mission-driven portfolio. The combination of institutional impact capital, UK grant funding, and a US scout fund signal suggests a round assembled as much for distribution strategy as for the cheque size.
