Cori Clinical raises €3.8M Seed to eliminate the coordination delays that stall clinical trials

“Clinical trials lose an average of 11 weeks to preventable delays. Cori fixes the coordination layer that causes them.”
Jorn Jansen Schoonhoven — CEO, Cori Clinical

Cori Clinical (London / Amsterdam) has raised €3.8 million in a Seed round led by Breega, with Enzo Ventures, Heartfelt, Together Ventures, and Bynd VC participating. Founded in 2025 by Jorn Jansen Schoonhoven (CEO) and Patricio Fernández (CTO), the company builds a real-time coordination platform connecting clinical trial sponsors, CROs, and investigator sites. Note: EU-Startups' headline stated €3.55M; the article body confirms €3.8M.

The 11-week delay problem

Clinical trials are expensive, long, and operationally fragile. The science — patient population, endpoint selection, treatment arm design — consumes most of the attention. The operations — coordinating between the sponsor funding the trial, the CRO managing it, and the dozens of investigator sites running it — consume most of the delays.

The average trial loses roughly 11 weeks to preventable operational failures before the first patient is enrolled. Site activation requires paperwork passed between parties in different systems; scheduling a patient visit requires coordination between the site coordinator, the sponsor's monitor, and the CRO's project manager; a protocol deviation at one site triggers a communication cascade that uses email and phone because no shared system exists. None of these delays are scientifically necessary — they are coordination failures at the operational layer.

Cori's platform

Cori builds the shared operational layer that currently does not exist. Sponsors, CROs, and investigator sites connect to a single platform where scheduling, communication, and protocol compliance monitoring are centralised. Conflicts are flagged automatically before they produce delays; protocol deviation alerts reach the right people immediately rather than waiting for a monitoring visit to surface them; site activation workflows are tracked with visibility for all parties.

"Clinical trials lose an average of 11 weeks to preventable delays," said Schoonhoven. "Cori fixes the coordination layer that causes them."

Breega's sector bet and the dual-hub structure

Breega — Paris and London — leads its first clinical trials investment in this archive, in a company that mirrors its own dual European headquarters. The London/Amsterdam structure for Cori is operationally sensible: the UK and Netherlands are both major hubs for European clinical research, with dense concentrations of pharma sponsors, CROs, and academic medical centres.

The €3.8M Seed funds product development (completing the platform's real-time coordination features), team expansion in London and Amsterdam (clinical operations expertise and engineering), and the first pharma sponsor client engagements. The clinical trial coordination market is dominated by legacy clinical trial management systems (CTMS) that are expensive, slow to configure, and not designed for real-time communication — which is precisely the gap Cori targets.
