“Brazil is the natural step: it speaks our language, has more than 2 million teachers, teachers there adopt digital tools easily, and some already use Intuitivo. We want to take what we have built in Portugal there, on a much bigger scale.”
João Guimarães — co-founder and CEO, Intuitivo

Intuitivo (Porto, Portugal) has raised €1.35 million in a Seed round co-led by Caixa Capital and the Impact Innovation Fund — managed by 3xP Global under the Capitalisation and Resilience Fund (FdCR), administered by Portugal's development bank Banco Português de Fomento. Global accelerator Techstars, COREangels Lisboa, COREangels Porto, and Angels Way — Portugal's first fund structured as a community of 436 small investors — also participated. The company was founded in 2021 by João Guimarães (CEO), Duarte Oliveira, and Diogo Silva.

The assessment time sink

OECD's TALIS 2024 survey found that teachers in Portugal spend more time on assessment and grading than educators in any of the other 43 countries studied — a statistic that speaks to both a national problem and the local traction Intuitivo has achieved in solving it. The platform lets teachers build assessments from scratch, draw from a shared exercise library, or use AI to convert legacy PDF tests into fully interactive, auto-graded digital versions. Students access their tests through a single link; no account or software installation required.

Real-time monitoring during live assessments, built-in anti-cheating mechanisms, and automatic performance statistics broken down by student, class, and exercise round out the product. For school leadership, a centralised dashboard tracks results and adoption across an entire institution.

The numbers are meaningful for a company of eleven people: 75,000 registered teachers, more than 200 contracts with municipalities and school clusters, covering 500+ schools across Portugal, and an estimated 165,000 working hours returned to teachers in the 2025/26 school year.

The Brazil thesis

The €1.35M round has one explicit use: get to Brazil.

"Brazil is the natural step: it speaks our language, has more than 2 million teachers, teachers there adopt digital tools easily, and some already use Intuitivo," said Guimarães. "We want to take what we have built in Portugal there, on a much bigger scale."

Brazil's teacher market — 2.2 million — is roughly twelve times Portugal's. Intuitivo's competitive advantage there is linguistic and cultural rather than purely technical: a Portuguese-language platform built around the European Portuguese-Brazilian Portuguese overlap, with an existing word-of-mouth network among Brazilian teachers who encountered the product through Portuguese connections. The Techstars network and the development-bank backing via FdCR provide institutional credibility for entering a market with complex public-sector procurement.

Headcount will nearly double from 11 to 20 before year-end. The Seed gives the team 12-18 months to demonstrate whether the municipality-and-school-cluster model that drove adoption in Portugal can be replicated in Brazil without a fundamentally different go-to-market motion.
