eComID raises €14.6M Seed to build the identity layer for AI-native retail
A Stockholm-based company building the shopper identity layer for AI-era retail — a portable Shopping Passport carrying size, fit, and taste preferences across brands so AI can personalise every visit from the first session.
“AI without context still starts from zero. The best shopping experience should feel like walking into a store that already knows how to help. We're building the missing layer between shoppers, brands and AI to make that possible.”
eComID (Stockholm) has raised $17 million (€14.6 million) in a Seed round led by Systemiq Capital, the London-based transatlantic fund whose founding LPs include former Unilever CEO Paul Polman. New investors Regeneration.VC, Course Corrected, and Stadium — Sweden's largest sports and sports-fashion retailer — joined returning backers CapitalT and strategic investor H&M Group, which first put capital into the company in 2023. Angel participants include Truecaller co-founder Alan Mamedi, King co-founder Sebastian Knutsson, and former Depop CEO Maria Raga, among others.
Founded in 2023 by Oscar Rundqvist, eComID builds what it calls a Shopping Passport: a portable shopper identity profile that travels across connected brand sites. When a shopper with a Passport visits a connected brand for the first time, the brand's AI has immediate access to size, fit history, and preference data — information that previously required multiple sessions and returns to reconstruct. The commercial case is bilateral: shoppers receive personalised experiences from visit one; brands report 10% higher conversion rates and 30% lower return rates. Fast Company named eComID among its most innovative companies in 2025.
The context problem that personalisation hasn't solved
The company's diagnosis is structural: AI personalisation requires context, and in e-commerce that context is currently stranded inside each brand's own silo. A shopper with a well-calibrated size profile at COS arrives at NN07 as a stranger. The Passport makes that data portable and brand-agnostic.
The platform now has three products alongside the core Passport: Vera, an AI shopping agent for sizing intelligence and conversational product discovery; an AI Sizing engine; and Nudge & Score, a predictive merchandising layer. Sixty-plus brands are live — including COS, J.Lindeberg, Axel Arigato, Peak Performance, Haglöfs, and Asket — with 20 million monthly shoppers on the network. The company reached this scale without a dedicated sales or marketing team, relying instead on network effects across the brand roster and H&M Group's distribution access since 2023.
A retailer that invested after becoming a customer
Stadium's participation as an investor, after operating as a customer, is the round's most operationally legible signal. A major Nordic retailer converting from buyer to backer publicly attests that the platform delivers at the scale of a large commercial operation. H&M Group's continued involvement means two of the Nordics' most significant fashion retail groups are now capital-aligned behind the same infrastructure.
Systemiq Capital's LP profile adds a sustainability dimension. The fund's association with The Fashion Pact and Polman's founding involvement make eComID legible inside sustainability-mandated boardrooms — where return-rate reduction needs an ESG wrapper alongside the margin benefit. CapitalT, returning from the 2024 pre-seed of roughly €2.75 million, describes the company as showing "that sustainability and profitability can go hand in hand."
The capital goes to international expansion, deepening Vera's sizing and discovery capabilities, and building the team and infrastructure for global brands. The Nordics have produced 60+ brand partnerships and 20 million monthly shoppers; the next 18 months will test whether those terms translate to UK or US fashion, where incumbents have years of integration depth to defend.
