The wire — 23 August 2026

Sunday, last full weekend of August. No qualifying round was announced today — nor was one expected; European tech press does not publish on Sundays, and companies do not issue press releases into an empty room. What the desk does bring today are three rounds announced Thursday and Friday that the week's sweeps missed, clearing a backlog that accumulated as the August 20 brief focused on its five-round batch and the August 21 brief found nothing by press time.

Oshen (Plymouth) closed €4.27 million ($5 million) led by Lunar Ventures, with AlbionVC, Twin Track, and Concept Ventures participating alongside angels. Founded in 2022 by Imperial College engineers Anahita Laverack and Ciaran Dowds, the company builds C-Star robot constellations — small, wind-and-solar-powered autonomous craft that sail for months without maintenance, transmitting ocean data by satellite. Customers include NOAA, the Royal Navy, the US Navy's METOC command, the UK Met Office, and Météo-France. The company initially took three years to build 15 C-Stars and now builds 15 every six weeks, with 100 more on order. A 50-robot constellation is deploying in the North Atlantic Subpolar Gyre under a €2.3 million ARIA grant, targeting one of the climate system's most consequential tipping points. The round funds the manufacturing scale-up. No stage was stated.

Eyedentity (Stockholm) closed an oversubscribed first round at €1.3 million (SEK 15 million) led by Norrsken Launcher, with Karolinska Institutet Innovation and angels. Founded in 2025 by ocular oncologist Gustav Stålhammar (KI Professor, St. Erik Eye Hospital) and ML engineer Mats Holmström (former RaySearch Laboratories), the company uses AI to screen for uveal melanoma from fundus images already taken during routine optician appointments — no new equipment required. The company reports a 90% reduction in false-positive referrals. A live pilot is running with Synologen, a Swedish independent optician network. Norrsken Launcher's involvement is its second ProYarn-tracked investment this week alongside Velatir, where Norrsken Evolve participated — two different programmes, one brand, two Seed-stage bets in the same August filing window. No stage was stated for Eyedentity's round.

Guideless (Vilnius) raised €1 million in a pre-Seed led by Superhero Capital, with FIRSTPICK VC and angels Thomas Plantenga (Group CEO, Vinted), Vytautas Atkočaitis (CEO, Vinted Go), and Mantas Mikuckas (Vinted co-founder). Incorporated June 2026, the company captures software workflows via screen and converts them into narrated video training guides — editable step-by-step, auto-maintained as tools change, narrated in 40+ languages. Vinted is a live paying customer; Plantenga describes replacing week-long manual rebuilds with near-automatic updates. The longer-term thesis: the step-level workflow database becomes structured context for AI agents needing a reliable source of truth about how a specific company's software is actually configured. Three thousand users across 15 markets at pre-Seed.

France has now been silent for ten consecutive days since August 13. No qualifying Seed or Series A announcement from a French-HQ startup has reached the desk across that stretch. Coverage resumes as announcements do.
