The wire — 19 August 2026
Two separate strands today, no connecting thread. August 19 itself produced no qualifying rounds from France or the rest of Europe by press time — consistent with the post-Assumption pattern that has kept the wire dark since 14 August. What the day's file does hold is two rounds announced earlier this week that the prior sweeps missed.
Oceanloop (Munich) announced a financing package of up to €38.5 million to scale its land-based recirculating aquaculture system for Giant Grouper farming in Germany and Spain. The structure warrants a clear read: the package combines equity from Hatch Blue (Blue Revolution Fund) and Stolt Ventures with a €32 million European Investment Bank venture-debt facility — a 2024 commitment amended in July 2026 — whose terms were not separately broken out in the announcement. The equity contribution from Hatch Blue and Stolt Ventures is real but undisclosed; roughly 85 percent of the headline figure is EIB debt. Oceanloop's Kiel facility, producing 20–30 tonnes of Giant Grouper per year since April 2026, is the base from which a planned 250-tonne facility will be built by end-2026, with a 2,000-tonne Gran Canaria facility projected from 2029. No stage was given.
Birdsview (Bergen) raised €3.7 million (NOK 40.5 million) — stage unlabelled — from a six-institution Nordic syndicate: Sarsia, Butterfly Ventures, Proptechfonden, Kiilto Ventures, Nordic Makers, and Momentum, plus existing backers Eviny Ventures and Farvatn Venture and three named angels. Birdsview's platform uses AI-interpreted ground-penetrating radar to scan concrete structures for subsurface damage — cracks, corroded rebar, voids — without the specialist expertise that traditional GPR requires. The company reports customers across nine countries in the weeks since its March 2026 commercial launch. Note: this is not the Leipzig-based Birdsview (AI email marketing, covered in July) — the Bergen company shares only its name.
No French rounds reached the desk today. The French tech press returned from the Assumption break on 17 August but no qualifying Seed or Series A announcements from French-HQ startups were indexed across EU-Startups, Maddyness, FrenchWeb, or tech.eu — five consecutive quiet days since 14 August. Coverage resumes as announcements do.
