Birdsview, a Leipzig-based AI startup founded in 2023 by Tim Kuesters and Ozan Brochwitz-Tuerker, has raised €2.5 million in a Seed round co-led by Fortino Ventures and Newion, with returning backer TGFS. The capital goes to scaling Avys — the company's AI email marketing agent — to more online retailers across Europe.

The agent, not the tool

Birdsview's product is not another email marketing platform. Avys is positioned as a replacement for the entire email marketing stack: the SaaS tools, the agency that operates them, and the in-house team that manages the agency. It handles campaign strategy, audience segmentation, content generation, send-time optimisation, and performance analysis — end to end, without human input beyond the initial setup.

The founders arrived at this from a specific place. Before founding Birdsview, Kuesters and Brochwitz-Tuerker ran a CRM agency — exactly the business model Avys is designed to make obsolete. "Avys isn't a better tool — it's the worker," Brochwitz-Tuerker said. "We started Birdsview after running a CRM agency ourselves, the exact business model Avys is built to make obsolete."

That origin story is the sharpest possible form of market knowledge: the founders know the cost structure, the failure modes, and the margin profile of the business they are replacing.

The case for displacing agencies

Email marketing for online retail operates on a clear output metric — revenue generated per campaign — which makes AI automation tractable in a way it isn't in more qualitative creative fields. Audience segmentation is a data problem; send-time optimisation is a statistics problem; A/B testing at scale is a compute problem. All of it can, in principle, be handled by an AI agent better than by a human operating a SaaS dashboard.

Wouter Goossens, partner at Fortino Ventures, described the investment thesis: "Birdsview's agentic solution empowers retailers with a revenue generator on auto-pilot — making legacy SaaS and agency services redundant." Fortino, which focuses on B2B SaaS across Benelux and DACH, provides distribution reach for the European retail market; Newion, a Dutch early-stage fund, adds complementary geographic coverage.

Lean capital, clear test

€2.5 million is a small Seed for a company taking on a market that includes Klaviyo and Mailchimp at the tool layer and hundreds of independent agencies at the service layer. The small round size is either a deliberate capital efficiency play — land on revenue, scale on proof — or an indication that the round closed earlier than planned on the back of initial traction.

The 18-month question is straightforward: is Birdsview replacing agency contracts and tool subscriptions, or supplementing them? The economic case is strongest when displacement is the story. Retailers who cancel their agency retainer and switch to Avys produce a clear ROI narrative; retailers who add Avys alongside existing tools produce a cost line, not a saving.
