Zeit AI raises €5M to give Europe's mid-market companies their own data engineer
A Munich-based AI company building ZeitMind, an autonomous data-engineering agent that consolidates data from ERP, CRM, and hundreds of enterprise systems and automates analysis workflows — targeting the European mid-market companies that run on spreadsheets.
Zeit AI (Munich) has raised €5 million in a seed round led by Y Combinator, with participation from Oxford Seed Fund, Hasso Plattner VC, the Sequoia Capital Scout Fund, and ACE Ventures. Angels include Christian Lindner (former German Finance Minister), Mario Götze (World Cup winner and entrepreneur), Robert Fink (CTO, Helsing), Charlie Songhurst (Meta board member), and Martin Schoeller (Schoeller Group). The capital funds product and machine-learning development alongside engineering hires.
Zeit AI was founded in 2024 by Leopold von Waldthausen and Marvin Bornstein, both formerly of Palantir. Their product, ZeitMind, is an autonomous data-engineering agent designed for the European mid-market: companies with 100 to 2,000 employees that run core operations on ERP and CRM systems but lack the data infrastructure to extract systematic insights from them.
The Palantir gap, repackaged for mid-market
Palantir's core IP is the ability to consolidate data from incompatible enterprise systems — a problem it has sold to governments and large enterprises at prices that exclude the mid-market. The European mid-market — German Mittelstand manufacturers, Dutch logistics companies, Italian industrial groups — runs on a mix of SAP, Navision, Dynamics, custom ERP, and legacy CRM, with integration managed through exports and manual processes. A meaningful portion of operational analysis is still produced in Excel.
ZeitMind connects to those systems, consolidates the data, and executes the analysis workflows that previously required a data engineer or a BI consultant. The autonomous framing is the key differentiation from standard BI tools: the agent does not simply visualise data that has already been cleaned and structured; it reasons across the raw feeds to answer the question the operations manager is actually asking.
A cap table built for enterprise credibility
The angel composition is strategic for a company selling into a segment that is slow to adopt new software. Christian Lindner's participation provides political and economic credibility in Germany's business press; Mario Götze brings visibility in a market where personal networks open enterprise doors; Hasso Plattner (SAP's founder, via his VC) signals compatibility with the dominant ERP ecosystem Zeit AI's customers run. The YC pedigree accelerates US market access without the typical German SME's instinct toward domestic-only vendors.
The €5M seed is enough runway to prove the product across a range of ERP configurations and to sign the first reference customers. The commercial test is not whether Zeit AI can build a good agent — it can — but whether mid-market operations managers will trust an autonomous agent with the numbers their business runs on. That is a sales and credibility problem as much as a technical one, which is why the cap table was assembled the way it was.
