Cellbox Solutions completes €5M Series A to scale warm-chain logistics for living cells
A Cologne-based biotech logistics company providing portable CO₂ incubator systems — Cellbox Go Ground, Cellbox Go Flight, and Cellbox Shipper — that maintain controlled temperature and atmosphere for live biological materials in transit.
“Over the past years, we have built a strong foundation for the controlled transport of living biological materials. This financing lets us accelerate that work and bring our warm-chain infrastructure to the organisations that need it most.”
Cellbox Solutions (Cologne) has completed a €5M Series A, bringing in Baltic Business Angels Invest GmbH as a new investor alongside existing backers NRW.BANK and Fraunhofer Venture. The round represents the final close of the Series A; a first tranche of €3.5M was raised in March 2026. The company was co-founded by Prof. Dr. Kathrin Adlkofer (CEO) and Dr. Bernd Muehlenweg (CBO/CFO) and has built portable CO₂ incubator systems for the transport of live biological materials since 2017.
What Cellbox builds
The core product family comprises three systems. Cellbox Go Ground is designed for same-day and overnight road and rail shipments. Cellbox Go Flight handles air freight with aviation-certified pressurisation. Cellbox Shipper is a compact, portable unit for courier delivery of small-volume samples. All three maintain the CO₂ concentration, temperature, and humidity required to keep primary cells, tissue samples, and cell therapy products viable during transit — conditions that standard pharmaceutical cold-chain containers do not provide.
The company has deployed more than 400 Cellbox systems across three continents. Customers include cell therapy manufacturers, hospital research units, and contract research organisations that need to move live materials without the viability losses that standard cool-chain handling causes. The commercial model is rental-based: Cellbox provides the system per shipment or on a recurring subscription, building a recurring revenue stream and accumulating transit-condition data with each completed delivery.
A warm-chain infrastructure play
The financing positions Cellbox as infrastructure for the cell therapy expansion. CAR-T therapies and other autologous treatments depend on maintaining cell viability across a supply chain that spans hundreds or thousands of kilometres and multiple carriers. The controlled environment Cellbox provides is not a differentiating feature; it is a prerequisite for the shipment to work at all.
NRW.BANK and Fraunhofer Venture re-invested in the final close. NRW.BANK is the state development bank for North Rhine-Westphalia, a region that concentrates German pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturing. Fraunhofer Venture connects Cellbox to the 75-institute Fraunhofer network — the largest applied research organisation in Europe — for ongoing technical development. Baltic Business Angels Invest, bringing new capital to complete the round, adds a Baltic investor presence to the existing German institutional base.
The proceeds will be used to expand warm-chain logistics services across Europe, Asia, and North America and to scale the rental and recurring-service model.
