Budapest's BOOKR Kids closes €6.1M Series A to expand AI literacy platform to 30+ countries
A Budapest-based EdTech company whose BOOKR Class platform delivers interactive literacy, language learning, and AI-readiness content for children via digital books with native-speaker narration and AI teacher-support tools for schools in 30+ countries.
“The next generation will not compete with AI on speed. They will need to compete on depth: comprehension, curiosity, judgement and the ability to ask better questions. This investment allows BOOKR to build the learning infrastructure behind those capabilities — and to take it to millions more children around the world.”
BOOKR Kids (Budapest) has closed a €6.1 million Series A transaction led by TCEE Fund IV, managed by 3TS Capital Partners, the Central and Eastern European growth fund. The round includes primary investment, secondary share purchases, and conversion of existing financing instruments. Additional investors include Leib Lurie (founder of US literacy nonprofit Kids Read Now), Robert Iskander (Chairman and CEO of SchoolDay, an education data infrastructure platform serving 18 million-plus learners), Infinit Capital Oy (the Koponen family's Finnish investment vehicle), and Albert Sárospataki via FusionWise angel syndicate.
Founded in 2015 by Dr. Dorka Horváth, BOOKR Kids operates the BOOKR Class platform — interactive digital books with native-speaker narration for children's literacy and language learning, paired with Teacher Support AI that generates CEFR-aligned learning pathways, curriculum mapping, and content recommendations. The platform serves 600,000-plus paying students across 3,000-plus schools in 30-plus countries, with key markets in English-language learning, German, and Hungarian first-language literacy.
Commercial proof before growth capital
The financial position is the round's distinguishing feature. BOOKR Kids reports approximately $2.7 million in 2025 revenue and is EBITDA-positive — two metrics that most EdTech companies cannot claim when raising growth rounds. The Series A finances expansion from a commercially validated base rather than extending a runway while the company searches for product-market fit.
Research backing has accumulated alongside commercial growth. A university-led Hungarian study found a 20% stronger reading comprehension improvement versus a control group. A 2026 Jordan pilot produced a treatment-group improvement of 1.08 points against a comparison-group decline of 0.47 points (p<0.001). UNICEF awarded its highest evidence rating. The Bett Awards and HolonIQ Europe EdTech rankings add sector recognition. The platform also received a €662,000 non-repayable EU grant for development of AI-driven adaptive language assessment and proficiency placement.
Institutional distribution through the investor table
The investor composition is strategic. 3TS Capital Partners brings CEE institutional credibility and experience navigating the multilingual European education market. Iskander's SchoolDay is a distribution platform serving over 18 million learners — a potential channel for BOOKR Class reaching institutional buyers who already trust SchoolDay's infrastructure. Lurie's Kids Read Now provides the US literacy market access that BOOKR identifies as a priority expansion target.
Barnabás Vincze of 3TS Capital described BOOKR's key commercial differentiator: "a geographically diversified revenue base rather than depending on a single home market," with partners in Turkey, the UAE, Jordan, and China already in place. The capital goes to BOOKR Next (extending the platform to ages 10–18), BOOKR Phonics (structured early literacy), Teacher Dashboard international scaling, and multilingual expansion. The adaptive AI assessment tool, backed by the EU grant, is the R&D priority most likely to determine whether BOOKR builds a defensible institutional product for school ministries rather than remaining a parent-and-teacher subscription business.
