The wire — 7 August 2026
Two rounds from 6 August, surfacing in this morning's sweep. No fil rouge connects them: one is Finnish deep-tech compressing eye-tracking hardware into thin-frame wearable dimensions; the other is Belgian AI automating the design step inside dental laboratories. They share a date and an early stage, and both are bets on removing a constraint — physical in one case, a labour bottleneck in the other — that has kept their respective sectors from scaling. That is too thin a thread to carry a theme. August is doing what August does.
SeeTrue Technologies (Joensuu, €2.2 million; ZEISS Ventures leads, Superhero Capital, North Karelia Growth Fund / Redstone Nordics, Luminate, and Finnish angels) is a University of Eastern Finland spinout founded in 2018 by Roman Bednarik. The company has built an ultra-low-power eye-sensing architecture designed to fit inside normal-looking glasses frames — solving the power-and-form-factor constraint that has prevented eye-tracking from appearing in consumer wearables. ZEISS Ventures leading the round is the significant signal: Carl Zeiss AG supplies optics to the global spectacles industry and is actively involved in the lens systems of multiple AI-glasses programmes. That is not a passive investor; a €2.2 million financing round led by ZEISS is a bet on a specific architecture finding its way into products the company already supplies.
Relu (Leuven, €1.5 million, approximately $1.75 million; Dental Innovation Alliance strategic investment) is a follow-on from Relu's 2023 Seed — the same US investor returning, not a new backer entering. Founded in 2019 by Holger Willems, Adriaan Van Gerven, Antoine Coppens, and Thomas Beznik, the company automates the prosthetic design step in dental laboratories: the AI ingests an intraoral scan and generates a draft crown, bridge, or implant design that a technician reviews and approves rather than builds from scratch. The productivity claim is labour economics — one technician handling multiples of their current caseload. The DIA relationship functions partly as a distribution mechanism; what it cannot guarantee is that productivity claims hold across the hardest case types, not just the most tractable ones.
The day in numbers
~€3.7 million across 2 rounds in 2 countries. Finland led by capital (€2.2 million, SeeTrue Technologies); Belgium placed the second round. No French rounds have surfaced for the second consecutive trading day — the August lull has settled across both geographies. Both rounds were announced 6 August and picked up in today's sweep; no qualifying rounds announced on 7 August had appeared in primary feeds at pipeline run time. Stage distribution: neither announcement states an explicit stage — SeeTrue describes a "financing round," Relu a "strategic investment."
