The wire — 25 July 2026

Saturday brought nothing new from France or continental Europe on 25 July itself — the expected rhythm for a weekend when press teams are off and deal announcements are held for Monday. Two rounds from Thursday 23 July cleared two-source verification after yesterday's brief had run and are covered here.

The connection between the two rounds is indirect but real. Scape is betting that the email inbox — unchanged in its fundamental design for 25 years — needs to be rebuilt for a world where AI acts on behalf of the user rather than waiting for instruction. PageMind is betting the same about the e-commerce product page, which was designed for a human clicking through search results and is poorly structured for an AI system synthesising product recommendations without showing a link list. Both are early-stage bets on AI replacing an interface rather than augmenting it. Beyond that, the two companies share nothing: different geographies (Stockholm, Barcelona), different sectors (professional productivity, e-commerce infrastructure), and a capital gap — €2.9M versus €1.2M — that reflects the difference in their competitive windows.

Scape (Stockholm, $3.2 million / €2.9 million, announced 24 July; Y Combinator, General Catalyst, FundersClub) is a two-founder Swedish AI startup, both founders 23, that emerged from stealth on Friday with a product already open for public access. The company is building an AI-native email inbox — not a plug-in, but an interface rebuilt from scratch, where AI proactively drafts replies, generates documents inline, and filters the inbox to surface only what needs a human decision. An integrated local meeting notetaker feeds context from calls directly into the interface. The round was not publicly stage-labelled by the primary sources. General Catalyst — which has participated in Tsuga and Lucis from ProYarn's recent coverage — is now backing a Swedish seed with Y Combinator. The angel roster includes Sophia Bendz (former CMO, Spotify) and Sebastian Knutsson (co-founder, King).

PageMind (Barcelona, €1.2 million, stage unstated; 4Founders Capital lead) was founded by Jaume Portell and builds an AI platform that generates product descriptions, buying guides, FAQs, and comparison pages structured for discovery by AI-powered search systems — ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity — which now recommend products rather than returning links to product pages. Named investor David Martín (CEO, Tradeinn — 17 specialist sports retail stores across Europe) anchors the product's relevance in a live e-commerce context; Javier Pérez-Tenessa (co-founder, eDreams) rounds out a cap table built on operator signal. Use of funds: platform development, team expansion, US market entry.

France reported no qualifying rounds for the 25 July window. No new French announcements emerged on the 24th or 25th.
