The wire — 22 July 2026
Yesterday's brief ran at the European morning open before Tuesday's announcement channels had published, leaving six qualifying rounds uncovered. Today's edition catches them up. France had no qualifying rounds for the window. The six rounds below share no single thread: two are in space infrastructure, two in climate and materials, one is a unicorn robotics Series A that sits on its own, and one is an AI play for the construction industry. A forced theme would be the wrong call.
Humanoid (London, $152 million / €133 million, Series A, Prime Movers Lab lead; Bosch, Schaeffler, Fubon Financial, Aglaé Ventures) is the day's signature story and not only because of the number. The round's structural logic is in the cap table: two of Europe's largest industrial manufacturers — Bosch as committed production partner and Schaeffler as precision components supplier — taking equity positions means that Humanoid enters mass manufacturing with industrial infrastructure already inside the syndicate rather than to be financed separately. Founded in May 2024 by manufacturing entrepreneur Artem Sokolov, the 160-person company builds autonomous industrial robots powered by its proprietary KinetIQ AI platform, targeting logistics, manufacturing, and retail with commercial Beta deployments planned for Q4 2026. The valuation — €1.1 billion post-money — establishes Humanoid as what it describes as Europe's first pure-play humanoid robotics unicorn. ProYarn covered Microagi four weeks ago — Munich's bet on proprietary factory footage as training data for robots; Humanoid is the hardware layer that will need such data. Whether Bosch's manufacturing commitment translates into Q4 commercial performance that justifies the €1.1 billion tag is the first test the $152M funds.
Circular Materials (Cadoneghe, Italy, €11.8 million, stage unstated — SAFE instrument; CDP Venture Capital lead, EIC Fund, EIT RawMaterials, 360 Capital) develops SWaP™, an electrochemical technology that recovers dissolved critical metals from industrial wastewater and reintroduces them into supply chains as secondary raw materials. Founded in 2019 by Andrea Campiglio and led by CEO Marco Bersani, the company is building an additional recovery hub in Ferrara. The public-adjacent investor mix signals a validation stage, not a commercial scale-up: whether SWaP™ meets the purity grades industrial buyers require is the test the round funds.
deltaVision (Munich, €10.2 million, stage unstated — first VC round; KT Ventures and Valemount Capital co-leads, Futury Capital) makes the cryogenic valves, pressure regulators, and electromotive actuators that govern propellant flow inside launch vehicles, satellites, and orbital platforms. Founded in 2022 by Denis Kiefel, Alex Plebuch (CEO), and Matthias Günther, the 125-person company operates from a former Siemens plant and claims to be already profitable — an unusual position for deep-tech hardware before any VC funding. The round also funds in-orbit refueling infrastructure development. Deutsche Sanierungsberatung — dsb (Berlin, over €10 million, Series A; Simon Capital and VERBUND X Ventures co-leads, IBB Ventures, Vireo Ventures, Atlantic Food Labs) is a climate renovation advisory startup founded in 2024 by three former Enpal employees. Its network of 300-plus certified energy consultants advises German homeowners on the scope, subsidy landscape, and contractor coordination for whole-home decarbonisation projects. The company targets over €15M in 2026 revenue. The Series A funds platform expansion, a B2B market entry, and the launch of a proprietary electricity tariff that would shift the model from project fees to recurring revenue.
ORiS (Turin, €5 million, Pre-Seed; Earlybird and Pitchdrive co-leads, Galaxia, Vento, Piemonte Next Fund — plus a €500K Piedmont Region grant) is developing laser-based wireless power transmission for in-orbit energy distribution: a directed laser beam from a power-rich spacecraft to a power-constrained one, converted by onboard photovoltaics. Founded in February 2024 at the Politecnico di Torino by Andrea Villa (CEO), Anna Mauro (CTO), Domenico Edoardo Sfasciamuro, and Francesco Lopez, the team is targeting a 2027 in-orbit demonstration with DCUBED. A terrestrial drone-charging platform, LOONA, offers early commercial revenue ahead of the space milestone. DeltaVision and ORiS, announced the same day, are unrelated companies; they share a beat (space infrastructure) and nothing else.
Cascade (London, $3.5 million / €3.24 million, Seed; Andreessen Horowitz Speedrun lead, Ada Ventures, Blitzscaling Ventures, Indico Capital, shuckerVC, G2C Ventures, Snowball VC) aggregates pre-bid public-record signals — bond filings, building permits, property transactions, capital plan line items — to surface construction project opportunities for architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) firms before formal RFPs are issued. Founded by Hannia Zia (CEO, ex-Google) and Joana Ferreira (CTO, ex-Amazon), the platform's early clients include firms working on JFK Airport, LaGuardia, nuclear facilities, and data centres. The a16z Speedrun backing validates the thesis in the current AI cycle; whether it produces measurable win-rate improvements for AEC clients in practice is the question $3.5M must begin to answer.
