The wire — 20 July 2026

in𝕏

No qualifying rounds were announced on Monday 20 July — the early-week quiet after a Friday announcement window that itself produced more than the Saturday edition could absorb. The wire catches up on two French rounds from Friday 17 July that cleared two-source corroboration only after the July 18 brief had closed. These are not a pair in any market sense: different sectors, different investors, different timelines. What they share is an origin — both are CNRS spinouts at a pre-commercial validation stage, each in a domain where France has the research and lacks the industrial chain. That is an observation, not a theme to force.

Womed (Montpellier, more than €7 million, stage unstated, round closed June 2026) is the larger case. The medtech, founded in 2018 by gynaecologist Dr Stéphanie Huberlant, polymer scientist Prof. Xavier Garric, and President Gonzague Issenmann, combines €5 million from three investors — Irdi Capital Investissement, Cemag, and Cantrak — with €2.1 million from crowdfunding campaigns on Lita and Capital Cell that raised more than twice their combined initial target. Its first product, Womed Leaf, is already in commercial distribution: an intra-uterine polymer device that prevents post-operative adhesions and evacuates naturally. The round funds two pipeline programmes — uterine fibroids (no surgery, no hormones) and acute uterine bleeding — entering clinical trials from 2027, and a push into the US market. The crowdfunding overshoot is a demand signal; whether physician adoption follows patient enthusiasm is the harder question.

Remedy Metals (Illkirch-Graffenstaden, more than €2 million, stage unstated) is a Strasbourg-area deeptech founded in 2024 by physicist-electrochemist Dr Peter Dunne, spun out of IPCMS (CNRS / Université de Strasbourg) and Trinity College Dublin. Its technology: a magneto-electrochemical process in an aqueous medium to separate and refine rare-earth elements — specifically neodymium and dysprosium — from mining concentrates and recycled permanent magnets, targeting oxides of more than 99.5% purity. Two unnamed strategic investors joined alongside non-dilutive public co-financing from Bpifrance and the Région Grand Est. The entire round funds a single milestone: TRL 6 — demonstration in a real industrial and mining environment. Europe's rare-earth dependency sits at the refining step, not the mining step; if the magneto-electrochemical process holds on heterogeneous feedstock, Remedy Metals occupies a supply-chain gap that the EU Critical Raw Materials Act explicitly calls for filling but cannot itself provide.

Womed (Montpellier, >€7M, stage unstated; Irdi Capital Investissement, Cemag, Cantrak; plus €2.1M crowdfunding on Lita and Capital Cell). Remedy Metals (Illkirch-Graffenstaden, >€2M, stage unstated; two unnamed strategic investors, Bpifrance and Région Grand Est non-dilutive).
