“We have proven that there is strong demand for a simpler way to buy furniture online. We have grown quickly while building a profitable business, and this funding allows us to accelerate from a strong position.”
Visa Friström — CEO, KHOY

KHOY (Helsinki) has raised €2 million in growth funding from Virta Equity, the Finnish private equity firm, and Innovestor, with several angel investors participating. The company, founded in 2022 as KOTA and rebranded KHOY in 2026, makes sofa beds that ship compressed in a vacuum-sealed box — a patented packaging format that cuts delivery costs by up to 95% compared with conventional furniture logistics. The product line won a Red Dot Design Award in 2026.

Founders: Visa Friström (CEO), András Kelemen (Creative Director), and Jukka Salmikukka (COO). All are based in Helsinki.

The logistics innovation behind the product

Most furniture brands that sell direct-to-consumer face the same constraint: large, heavy items require specialist freight — white-glove delivery at €100–€250 per shipment, limited to certain postcodes, with 2–4 week lead times. KHOY's vacuum-packing process compresses the sofa bed to a standard parcel size that ships on conventional express carrier networks. The unit economics are materially different: lower shipping cost, broader geographic reach, predictable delivery windows.

The company sells exclusively online, which removes the retail estate and margin-share costs of a conventional furniture brand. In 2025, revenue reached €4.3 million — 13× year-on-year growth — with the company profitable. The 2026 growth rate is running at 166% year-on-year. Virta Equity's Heikki Kivirinta: "KHOY has solved something the furniture industry has struggled with: how to sell and ship large, bulky products across borders without the cost eating the margin."

The US launch as the next test

The round funds three things: scaling existing European operations (the company sells across the EU, UK, and Switzerland), accelerating the US market — launched in late September 2026, approximately two weeks before this announcement — and expanding the product range beyond the current sofa bed line.

The US launch is the meaningful risk in the next 18 months. KHOY has built brand recognition in its core European markets; in the US it is unknown, competing against well-funded direct competitors (Burrow, Outer, Article) with stronger domestic brand positions and established logistics networks. The vacuum-packing innovation travels; the brand does not.
