The wire — 7 September 2026
No single thread runs through Monday's four deals. They share a date of publication — today — but their announcement dates span the opening week of September, and they surface now because secondary trackers (Sesamers, EU Startups' France and funding feeds) indexed them mid-week, after the daily ProYarn cuts had already closed. The honest shape is a catch-up scatter with a pronounced Belgian skew.
Belgium accounts for two of the four rounds and €53 million of the €59 million raised across this set. Conveo (Antwerp) is the headline by a wide margin: a $50 million (~€43M) Series A co-led by DST Global Partners and Balderton Capital, with Visionaries, 6 Degrees Capital, and Y Combinator alongside. Founded in 2024 by DataCamp co-founder Dieter De Mesmaeker and ex-McKinsey partner Hendrik Van Hove, the company runs AI-moderated consumer research at scale across 15+ languages, serving more than 400 enterprise clients — Google, Unilever, AB InBev, Canva — of whom more than 50 are Fortune 500 companies. The capital funds US market entry and StoryLines, a product that converts episodic research projects into continuous brand intelligence subscriptions. The thesis behind this round is not that Conveo has won the AI research category — it is that research can be made into a recurring-revenue product, and that DST Global Partners and Balderton have both backed that conversion before in other verticals.
Octave.energy (Mechelen) closes a €10 million Series A led by SPDG Growth, the investment vehicle of the Périer-D'Ieteren family office, with two unnamed Belgian banking co-investors. The company integrates battery energy storage systems and energy management software for commercial and industrial clients — and arrived at this raise already profitable. That is the sentence that separates Octave.energy from most of the BESS market: a company that has proven its unit economics before taking growth capital rather than burning the margin to acquire early reference accounts. Family-office backing with a longer investment horizon than a standard VC fund matches the pace: disciplined replication of a proven model across new European geographies rather than market-share capture at any price.
AI Score (London) closes a £4 million (~€4.6M) seed led by Fuel Ventures, with founding studio GALLOS Technologies participating. Founded in 2025 by Alex Harland (ex-founding team, UK National Cyber Security Centre), Benita Tibb, and Jonathan Kewley, the company's platform monitors enterprise AI agents in real time — which models run, who uses them, what they cost, and how they behave — and generates the audit records that EU AI Act compliance now requires. Early clients include Magic Circle law firms, a FTSE 250 company, and a UK fintech. Sir Jeremy Fleming, former director of GCHQ, advises the company. In enterprise governance tooling, team provenance is part of the product: the regulated-sector buyers who most need this category also scrutinise the security credentials of the vendors who supply it.
Piney (Nicosia) closes a €1.6 million seed led by Uni.fund to scale its short-term rental operations platform — cleaning coordination, linen logistics, turnover management — currently running across more than 5,000 units. The round is sized for a Mediterranean-first expansion; the ambition described is international, but the capital is a proof-of-concept allocation.
France produced no qualifying seed or Series A rounds during the opening week of September. The lespepitestech weekly review covering the August 31–September 6 period had not published as of Monday morning; the desk will monitor for any French announcements not yet indexed when it does.
