The wire — 30 August 2026

in𝕏

Sunday closes the last weekend of August with a single backlog item — a Berlin materials startup that three consecutive sweeps this week managed to miss. Nanolope (Berlin, €800K pre-Seed, led by IBB Ventures via its B# fund) announced its pre-seed financing on 27 August — the same day Certain Energy and Itoflow cleared corroboration — and then slipped between Thursday's and Saturday's editions. No rounds were announced on 30 August itself: EU Startups, Maddyness, Tech.eu, and Sifted published no new funding content on this Sunday. The August calendar closes quietly.

Nanolope builds panels from plant-based phase-change material (PCM) that mount on the walls, ceilings, and floors of existing buildings, turning structural surfaces into passive thermal storage systems. The technology is straightforward physics: the PCM absorbs heat as it melts during the day, releases it as it solidifies at night, keeping temperatures stable without active machinery. The company's panels store 45 kWh/m³ — 24 times the thermal capacity of conventional plasterboard, according to Nanolope's own testing — with a 70-year designed lifespan. Founded in 2025 by Dr. Felix Marske, Eric Matthes, and Dominik L. Schreiber, the company targets portfolio operators (housing companies, hotel groups, commercial property managers) for whom large-scale conventional renovation is prohibitively slow and expensive. The EU's updated Energy Performance of Buildings Directive provides the regulatory pressure that turns the technology from interesting to necessary. The €800K buys pilot projects, production scale-up, and team growth.

IBB Ventures led through its B# pre-seed vehicle — the same fund that backed Kazimi (Berlin, ZK-proof cybersecurity) five days earlier. Two very different sector bets from one Berlin fund in the same week.

The weekly recap for the week of 25–30 August is published separately as today's Sunday analysis.
