The wire — 4 August 2026
One round clears the bar this morning — announced 3 August and surfacing in today's sweep: Aflabox, an Italian food-safety startup with a portable device for detecting grain contamination. The grandes vacances effect holds everywhere else.
Aflabox (Italy) has closed a €1.35 million seed, led by FoodSeed (Eatable Adventures / CDP Venture Capital), with Farming Future co-investing. Founded in July 2024 by Fabrizio Cardillo and Luca Alinovi, the company has built a UV-imaging and AI device that detects aflatoxin and mycotoxin contamination in grain samples in under 90 seconds — designed for cooperative collection points, warehouse gates, and port terminals, not laboratory facilities. Commercial targets: Kenya, Nigeria, and Italy, operated partly through a Nairobi entity, Aflazero Ltd.
A thread from the archive: FoodSeed also co-invested in Nous — an Italian functional-ingredient startup — in July, making this its second ProYarn-covered agrifood commitment in six weeks.
No qualifying French or other European Seed / Series A rounds surfaced in today's sweep. The EU-Startups August feed is sparse; Maddyness MaddyMoney has not yet published its August round-up. The structural summer quiet documented in yesterday's brief persists across the broader market.
