The wire — 23 July 2026
No qualifying rounds have surfaced from Wednesday 23 July itself — too early in the European morning for announcement channels to have published for the day. The wire catches up on three rounds from Tuesday 22 July that cleared two-source corroboration only after yesterday's brief had already run. There is no single thread connecting all three: two are in clinical and preclinical biotech, the third is a UK cybersecurity play. What the two biotech rounds share — an off-the-shelf platform architecture designed to treat patients other approaches cannot reach — is worth noting, though they are independent companies at different stages solving different problems.
Brenus Pharma (Lyon, €11 million, Series A extension; Angelor, UI Investissement, Crédit Agricole CACE Création, Crédit Agricole CACF Capital Innovation, Noshaq, Orsa, BIO JAG, Bpifrance, plus new entrants Sambrinvest and Korea Omega Investment Corp) brings total Series A capital to approximately €33 million and total raised to €38 million. The money funds a single objective: completing Phase I for STC-1010 (NCT06934538) in microsatellite-stable metastatic colorectal cancer — the 95% of mCRC cases that checkpoint inhibitors don't touch. The FDA has accepted the IND. Brenus Pharma's Stimulated Ghost Cell platform is designed as an off-the-shelf in vivo immunotherapy that converts cold tumours into ones the immune system can recognise. The entry of Korea Omega Investment Corp — described as its first investment in France — is the most readable signal in the round: Asia-Pacific capital following European clinical-stage immuno-oncology into an indication the broader field has not yet moved. Whether the SGC approach generates durable immune responses in patients whose tumours have already proved resistant to every prior approach is the harder question Phase I must begin to answer.
Immitra Bio (Plan-les-Ouates, CHF 2.4 million / €2.58 million, Pre-Seed; Backbone Ventures lead, OCCIDENT co-lead; Another VC, Kickfund, Venture Kick, Zürcher Kantonalbank, FONGIT, ETH Foundation) is an ETH Zürich spinout founded in 2024. Its platform: mutation-agnostic in-vivo gene editing using non-viral delivery — no ex-vivo cell manipulation, no per-patient manufacturing run. Lead candidate IB-003 targets inherited anaemia, chosen because mutation diversity in that population is exactly the environment where agnostic design matters most. The contrast with the ex-vivo architecture that most approved gene therapies use is the commercial argument: one formulation across a broad patient population, without the per-patient cost structure that caps ex-vivo's economics. The pre-seed funds preclinical development and platform build-out; editing efficiency in animal models is the proof the capital is designed to generate. Brenus Pharma and Immitra Bio are unrelated companies; the shared logic — off-the-shelf platform, patients other approaches can't treat — is structural, not coincidental.
Ossprey (United Kingdom, $2.65 million / €2.41 million, Pre-Seed; Episode 1 Ventures lead, Osney Capital, Octopus Ventures; round oversubscribed) was founded in 2024 by Nate Dunning and David Read. The product: continuous automated scanning of open-source packages for malicious code, tuned to the pace of AI-assisted development. The thesis is that existing security tooling was designed for human review cadences that AI-speed engineering has already made obsolete — pull requests are faster, dependency updates more frequent, and the window for human review effectively gone. The oversubscription is a signal of investor conviction in the problem, not a proof of product traction. Whether the scanner catches novel attacks that current tools miss, and whether it integrates without friction into fast-moving pipelines, are the questions the $2.65M must begin to answer.
